"And you, child. Never again will you experience the good things in this world. Never again will you touch what you love. You will be but a spirit, trapped and alone, forever..." Bethany fell in love with someone who was engaged to another. When they were discovered, Beth was cursed to remain forever in the world, unable to touch or speak to anyone. She could eat, change clothes, and move objects, but otherwise, she was like a ghost. She went unseen by the people around her and was only able to watch as her family worried and the one she loved married and had children with the one who cursed her. This goes on for thousands of years. Until one day she meets a descendant of the witch, who she realizes can see her... Before the curse, Beth was kind but rough around the edges. She cared fiercely for the people around her, helping where she could and sticking up for people that might not have been able to help themselves. She loved to create, which included gardening and pottery, and would often climb trees to teach herself to read while enjoying the breeze. Hundreds of years of solitude have changed her, though. She's still kind, but in an abrasive, standoffish way, and she's more likely to snark at people than say good things. She's used to being unseen, so she doesn't actively seek people out. Instead, she does her own thing. She comments on people's actions without care (because really, they can't actually hear her) and talks to people even though she will never get a response. She's lonely and isolated, and that, coupled with the things that happened just before being cursed, have really jaded her. The Witch's curse affects more than just her appearance to others, it also affects her emotions without her knowing. Her negative emotions are amplified, and anything good she might feel is subdued. She wants to break free of her curse so she can live a normal life. |
